Stupid Internet…
Contrary to popular belief, the Internet isn’t my sole purpose in life. I’ve recently been on the receiving end of a lot of hostility, both for what I say and just for being in the position of provision that I am. Sometimes, I wonder if I have missed the point entirely, that I am pushing myself to provide all these services for free or cheap for no good reason. I used to get so much more satisfaction from it. Right now, I’m not looking forward to the expenses it will be in the coming months.
At the same time, I’ve given my word to some folks that I will keep their websites live and working for some time to come. I have to honor those commitments, and so I can’t just punch out and get some cheap hosting for my domains and walk away from it all. Alas, the crossroads all seem to lead to the same destination, and I’m just gonna have to suck it up. Pity party canceled, I’m gonna go watch some Battlestar Galactica.

Oh, Man, I thought you sounded down last time I talked to you. I’m still getting “beat up” but have been working too hard to let it stop me. Give me a call or I will call you, stories and more stories…

It’s not all bad. Really. I’m having to move to a new provider, which is partly the problem now. I’ve had a killer deal for almost/over 5 years now, but that provider is getting out of the business for the most part. I won’t have a 100% guarantee on that until later in the month of April, at which time I’ll get myself a new provider. Already scouted out more than a few, and am gonna migrate that way well before the red-line.
The good news on all of this is that I will be able to get some better services. The hardware will no longer be mine, but in fact be faster and more redundant. In addition, the bandwidth will be much faster, which some people have found reason to whimper about in the past.
As to resolving the criticism, that’s another matter. I also run a chat network that exposes me to a bit of personal attack from time to time, and THAT I can not do much about outside of punching out of the whole farking mess. Not terribly appealing, but it may help to take a vacation.
